By SaharaReporters, New York Unknown persons in the troubled Southern Kaduna region of Kaduna State on Friday shot to death a Chinese expatriate and one local man. Confirming the incident to SaharaReporters, a senior security official in the area said that two other Chinese expatriates were also hit by the assailants, who attacked them as they were worked on a railway lines in Kirim village. The village is in Kaura local government area of Kaduna on its border with Plateau State. According to the official, the gunmen appeared from a forest and fired several shots. As the surprised workers scampered for safety, the gunmen escaped. “Locals heard the shots because of the nature of the area; they quickly mobilized and also alerted us [but] before we arrived the scene the attackers fled out of our reach,” he said. “Our teams [are] here on ground and Special Task Force in Plateau are trailing them.” SaharaReporters contacted a source at Chinese Embassy in Abuja who declined comments, saying that only Mr. Deng Boqing, the ambassador, can speak or delegate an appropriate person to speak on such an issue. It was gathered that the wounded Chinese workers were evacuated to Abuja from a local public hospital. Some Chinese diplomats, accompanied by armed security, were also said to be on their way to the scene for an official assessment.
