Technology gurus from all over the world will be gathering in Las
Vegas for International CES 2014, the biggest consumer electronics show
in the world.
This year, 150,000 people are expected to attend the show, which debuts the latest and greatest in the technology world.
International CES 2014 runs from Tuesday through Friday at the Las
Vegas Convention Center where 20,000 of the newest, brightest and most
advanced products will be on display.
CES Chief Economist Shawn Dubravack said Las Vegas is the only city
with enough hotel rooms and enough exhibit space to host the show. He
said in 2014, there's a big focus on getting the most advanced
innovations into the hands of the every day consumer. The idea is to
make even the most basic activities
more convenient.
"You're seeing sensors embedded in a host of devices. We've got
wearable devices, whether it's health and fitness, or things like smart
watches, we expect a number of announcements there," Dubravack said at a
CES preview Sunday at the Mandalay Bay.
He said ultra-HD TV's, user-friendly drones and 3-D printers will be highlighted.
Audi will show off cars that drive hands-free and can navigate the
quickest way out of a traffic jam with automated steering and braking.
A company called Sleep Phone showed off a headband that improves
sleeping and exercising thanks to tiny speakers that emit white noise or
inspiring music.
"They're motivational speakers, the way the music is engineered from a
scientific perspective, has beats that excite you and beats that calm
you down," said Sleep Phone's Rachel Golden.
Another highlight will be technology that is more durable such as tablets that can bend without breaking.
The general public can't attend CES, but they can see highlights by
typing the hashtag #CES2014 on Twitter or visiting the official International CES website.
