NUGA:FUTA EMERGES GOLD MEDALIST FOR MALE CATEGORY IN TABLE TENNIS

Wednesday, 19th February, 2014 at the Table Tennis court witnessed a battle of the bats with FUTA carting away the gold medal for the men’s category by a 3-2 win.

After an exciting semi-final match in whom FUTA defeated FUNAAB by a (3-1) aggregate and the host team (OAU) were given a raw deal by their counterparts from UNIZIK.

The final battle was between FUTA and UNIZIK. The match revealed that the two teams were forces to be
reckoned with as members of both teams proved their mettle.

At first, it seems FUTA would have to make do with the silver medal as Pascal Ezeofor and Chukwu Philip of UNIZIK started a show of great servicing, smashing among others.

After a long table battle, FUTA came powerfully into the game. This made the game end in ties and they had to go for other rounds. It was at this point, Opeyemi Idowu and Adams Chandy(FUTA) showed they were really prepared to get gold and nothing less.

The Federal University of Technology, Akure eventually carried the day.
