The issue of speaking in tongues has bothered many, some tell others that if they can't pray in tongues that's to say they are not Holy spirit filled, I had an experience on that too... Read this article, is not meant to bring confusion nor segregation, but let this enlighten us.... Enjoy
Fanaticism, false excitement, false talking in tongues, and noisy exercises have been
considered gifts which God has placed in the church. Some have been deceived here.
The fruits of all this have not been good. “Ye shall know them by their fruits.”
Fanaticism and noise have been considered special evidences of faith. Some are not
satisfied with a meeting unless they have a powerful and happy time. They work for
this and get up an excitement of feeling. But the influence of such meetings is not
beneficial. When the happy flight of feeling is gone they sink lower than before the
meeting because their happiness did not come from the right source. LDE 159.4
The most profitable meetings for spiritual advancement are those which are
characterized with solemnity and deep searching of heart, each seeking to know
himself and, earnestly and in deep humility, seeking to learn
of Christ.—Testimonies For The Church 1:412 (1864). LDE 160.1 STOP DECEIVING YOURSELF AND PEOPLE. (Read gently and with understanding. Weigh every line as you read along) 1 Corinthians 14 Prophecy and Tongues 1 Pursue love and be eager for the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. 2 For the one speaking in a tongue does not speak to people but to God, for no one understands; he is speaking mysteries by the Spirit. 3 But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouragement, and consolation. 4 The one who speaks in a tongue builds himself up, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. 5 I wish you all spoke in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets so that the church may be strengthened. 6 Now, brothers and sisters, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how will I help you unless I speak to you with a revelation or with knowledge or prophecy or teaching? 7 It is similar for lifeless things that make a sound, like a flute or harp. Unless they make a distinction in the notes, how can what is played on the flute or harp be understood? 8 If, for example, the trumpet makes an unclear sound, who will get ready for battle? 9 It is the same for you. For you will be speaking into the air. 10 There are probably many kinds of languages in the world, and none is without meaning. 11 If then I do not know the meaning of a language, I will be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker a foreigner to me. 12 It is the same with you. Since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, seek to abound in order to strengthen the church. 13 So then, one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret. 14 If I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unproductive. 15 What should I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind. I will sing praises with my spirit, but I will also sing praises with my mind. 16 Otherwise, if you are praising God with your spirit, how can someone without the gift say “Amen” to your thanksgiving, since he does not know what you are saying? 17 For you are certainly giving thanks well, but the other person is not strengthened. 18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you, 19 but in the church I want to speak five words with my mind to instruct others, rather than ten thousand words in a tongue. 20 Brothers and sisters, do not be children in your thinking. Instead, be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature. 21 It is written in the law: “By people with strange tongues and by the lips of strangers I will speak to this people, yet not even in this way will they listen to me,” says the Lord. 22 So then, tongues are a sign not for believers but for unbelievers. Prophecy, however, is not for unbelievers but for believers. 23 So if the whole church comes together and all speak in tongues, and unbelievers or uninformed people enter, will they not say that you have lost your minds? 24 But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or uninformed person enters, he will be convicted by all, he will be called to account by all. 25 The secrets of his heart are disclosed, and in this way he will fall down with his face to the ground and worship God, declaring, “God is really among you.” Church Order 26 What should you do then, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each one has a song, has a lesson, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all these things be done for the strengthening of the church. 27 If someone speaks in a tongue, it should be two, or at the most three, one after the other, and someone must interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, he should be silent in the church. Let him speak to himself and to God. From what we just read, speaking in tongues like we have everywhere today are not those languages that people speak in churches or at home that even themselves can not understand. Those things spoken are rather incantations. Those are demonic practices that crept in the Church. Satan's work and deception that keeps the house of God in confusion. What then is speaking in tongues? Acts 2 The Holy Spirit and the Day of Pentecost 1 Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like a violent wind blowing came from heaven and filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And tongues spreading out like a fire appeared to them and came to rest on each one of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak in other languages as the Spirit enabled them. 5 Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven residing in Jerusalem. 6 When this sound occurred, a crowd gathered and was in confusion, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. 7 Completely baffled, they said, “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that each one of us hears them in our own native language? 9 Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and the province of Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, 11 both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs – we hear them speaking in our own languages about the great deeds God has done!” Tongues are people's language from any part of the world, tongue is your language or other people's language you learn and can use to communicate with the people who own the language you learn... You can not speak what your do not know or understand and say you are communicating with God. If I may ask you s question, what are you telling God since you do not know or understand what you are saying? Ok. Lets say we are in a church and you are praying and you are saying ho ho ho, po po po, ko ko ko, ki ki ki, gi gi gi. Do you and I or the others standing beside you during that worship know or understand what is coming out of your mouth? How can we know when you have finished so that we can chorus Amen? Or let's say you want to preach to us and we are not from the same tribe and so we can not hear or understand your language, how can we understand the message you are giving us? Friends, God has laid out instructions on how He should worshipped in His holy Book (Bible) Follow the instructions there and stay safe from trouble. Stop deceiving yourself and being deceived by the devil. God can not be mocked... Have a great day.
