A Norwegian couple Alexandra and Lola Andersen have become instant
celebrities in India after Lola recently gave birth to a
half-human/half-elephant hybrid that many Hindu practitioners believe to
be the reincarnation of the popular deity Ganesha - commonly depicted
as a man with several limbs and the head of an elephant.
Lots of Hindis, on getting wind of this, have begun a pilgrimage to
Norway, and the parents are disgusted that their 'elephant baby' is
getting them this sort of attention. They plan to sell him to India to
live in a temple, but the child is currently kept in the family's
basement.
