President Goodluck Jonathan has welcomed politicians from around the world who arrived in Abuja for today's centenary celebration.
The photos, however, have triggered controversy as people seem to believe that it is not appropriate to celebrate in the aftermath of two deadly Boko Haram attacks.
"He's there welcomin people, while innocent Nigerians re dyin everyday. There's nothin 2 celebrate 4," one of the comments reads.
The Islamist sect killed 59 children in a school in Yobe state on Tuesday. The insurgents set the dormitories on fire and slit the throats of those who tried to escape. The next day they attacked a number of villages in Madagali and Michika LGAs in Adamawa state killing dozens of people.

The FG secretary, senator Pius Anyim, when asked on Wednesday how Nigeria could be celebrating when terrorists are killing people in the north-eastern, said that the FG was doing everything possible to restore security in the region. "Terror is a worldwide phenomenon. If you compare it with cases all over the world, you will see that the case of Nigeria is under control," he said.
