Abuja - The family of late legal luminary and human rights activist,
Gani Fawehinmi has turned down the centenary honour being bestowed on
the late lawyer by the federal government in commemoration of the 100
years anniversary of Nigeria, according to Saharareporters.
The
family said it is inappropriate to honour the late human right activist
alongside the former military president, Ibrahim Babangida, who was
alleged to have been responsible for the eventual death of the lawyer
due to complications from years of being imprisoned by the Babangida
administration.
The family further stated that Babangida was
responsible for the death of Dele Giwa, a former close associate of Gani
Fawehinmi.
